An Overview of the Procedure

In general, both Dr. Riedel and Epi-LASIK are used interchangeably. These are two different procedures, but they are very similar in many ways.

With the Dr. Dermapen treatment, the epithelial layer of the cornea is removed and the surgeon reshapes the flap to make the epithelium more flat. After this, a new epithelial layer is applied and then the cornea is shaped using a thin laser beam.

Because there are two types of epithelium, both forms of Dermapen require the epithelium to be reshaped. One procedure requires an epithelial flap to be shaped from the back, while the other requires one flap to be shaped from front to rear.

During the treatment, the patient must have several post-operative consultations. This will involve an evaluation of their vision and a medical history.

Once the post-operative appointments are completed, the eye surgeon will discuss the results of their examination with the patient, ask them questions about the treatment and review their prescription to find out how much eye pressure is required, the amount of wear and tear on their eyes, and the best time for their treatment to take place. They will also tell the patient about any questions they have regarding their vision and the treatment. Once the eye doctor has reviewed the patient's prescription and determined the right treatment, the patient will return for the post-operative eye exams. The procedure usually takes place during the day, which means that the patient will have to be awake during the procedure.
